For the citizen

Subscribe to the RPO if you no longer want to receive unwanted telemarketing calls and/or paper advertising. Or if you are already a subscriber, manage your subscription with the renewal, selective revocation and cancellation features.

Access to services

How it works

If you no longer wish to receive telemarketing calls, you can subscribe your telephone numbers, both land-line and mobile, in the Public opt-out registry. Subscribing to the service cancels previously issued advertising consents (except for active contracts) and prohibits the disclosure of data to third parties. The service refers to both human-operated and automated calls (“robocalls”). Subscription is free of charge and for an indefinite period, but it can be renewed if one wishes to revoke telemarketing consents given after subscription to the RPO.

Who can subscribe

The Public opt-out registry has been extended to all land-line and mobile telephone numbers, both those in public and reserved telephone directories. All citizens with a telephone contract (also known as “telephone contractors”) can subscribe to the service by blocking the use of their number for advertising purposes by telemarketers.

How to subscribe

You can subscribe one or more telephone numbers to the RPO by three means: telephone, web and e-mail.

Web subscription

  1. Access the “Subscribe” feature and select the identification method if applicable
  2. Enter up to five telephone numbers
  3. Demonstrate the availability of the indicated telephone numbers by calling from them the appropriate RPO number displayed in the electronic form
  4. Express your right to opt-out

Telephone subscription

  1. Call the toll-free number 800 957 766 in the case of land-line users or 06 42986411 in the case of mobile users
  2. Follow the instructions of the automatic responder to express your right to opt out. In case of problems, the call will be forwarded to a human operator

E-mail subscription

  1. Fill in the RPO “Subscription” form with the required data, including up to five telephone numbers
  2. Save the form without changing its format
  3. Send the completed RPO form to iscrizione@registrodelleopposizioni.it
  4. Demonstrate the availability of the indicated numbers by calling from them the appropriate RPO number, which will be communicated by e-mail

Managing the subscription

Once one or more telephone numbers have been subscribed to the service, you can manage their subscription via the three modes, i.e. web, telephone and e-mail, using the “Renewal”, “Selective revocation” and “Cancellationfeatures.

Managing Web subscription

  1. Access the “Manage subscription” feature, selecting the identification method if applicable
  2. Enter the telephone number for which you intend to operate and the “Registry Code” you were assigned during subscription
  3. Choose the features available to manage your subscription

Managing Telephone subscription

  1. Call the toll-free number 800 957 766 in the case of land-line users or 06 42986411 in the case of mobile users from the number for which you intend to manage your subscription
  2. Follow the instructions of the auto-responder to choose the available features to manage your subscription. In case of problems, the call will be forwarded to a human operator

Managing E-mail subscription

  1. Fill in the RPO “Renewal” form or “Cancellation” form with the telephone number from which you intend to manage the subscription and the “Registry Code” assigned to you (the feature “Selective revocation” is available by web and telephone modes)
  2. Save the form without changing its format
  3. Send the completed RPO form to iscrizione@registrodelleopposizioni.it

RPO features

With the Public opt-out registry, you can apply for four different features: “Subscription”, “Renewal”, “Selective revocation” and “Cancellation”. All requests are handled within one working day, although they become effective within 15 days.

The “Subscription” feature blocks telemarketing calls, cancels consents to advertising and the transfer to third parties of personal data previously released for promotional campaigns, points collection, discounts and loyalty reward. Withdrawal of consent is effective both on human-operated and automated calls (so-called “robocalls”) After subscribing to the service, you may only receive calls authorised within the framework of contracts that have been in force or terminated not more than 30 days before (e.g. from the telephone and energy sector) and those for which you have given your consent after the date of subscription to RPO.

The “Renewal” feature allows you to renew your subscription to the service, cancelling any telemarketing consents issued in the period between the date of the first subscription and the renewal date.

The “Selective revocation” feature offers the possibility to selectively revoke an opt-out against specific operators subscribed to the RPO services from which you intend to receive promotional calls.

The “Cancellation” feature removes the subscription of your telephone number from the Public opt-out registry, thereby removing your right to opt-out of telemarketing.

Paper advertising

You can also subscribe your postal address associated with your telephone number in public telephone directories. In this way, you will not receive paper advertising from marketers who use public telephone directories for contact. For the subscription of your postal address, follow the same instructions described above for the subscription of telephone numbers.

Fines

Violation of the right of telephone contractors to opt-out – i.e. non-compliance with the RPO by telemarketers – is governed by the Italian Personal Data Protection Code and by the General data protection regulation (GDPR), which provides for administrative fines of up to Euro 20 million or for companies, up to 4 % of the total annual worldwide turnover of the previous year.
